i have some bad news for you. You are not gonna like it but here goes.......

the exercise is fantastic, good for your health and will burn calories and make you look toned, and muscle burns more calories than fat. BUT (here's the horrid bit)...you will not loose weight unless u diet. u have to cut back on all crap and you have to eat fewer calories than your body needs in order to burn the fat stored. it is simple maths Crying or Very sad
So, my good friend, no more mcdonalds, chinese, pizza etc. cut down on bread, pasta, crips and anything fatty. eat lots of friut and veg to help with the hunger pains. The thing is that if you do diet you will see results pretty fast, just don't try to loose too much too soon coz it will come back on again.

I am having the same problem...I exercise loads and yet am not loosing weight, and I know it is coz I drink too much and i guess I must be eating too much too becasue the weight is not coming off. But the good weather is coming and that helps with appetite too.... so we will find a way!

Liz is right, You have to cut back and stop eating out all the time. I know for a fact you eat out a lot. Eating just one healthy meal a day isn't enough. I've lost 2 kg in the last few weeks because I cut my calories back to 1100 a day, ride the exercise bike 1-2 hours a day, and walk at least 3 miles a day. There is no easy way. You either go for it all the way or you don't see results.

Even foods you think are healthy can be loaded with calories, so it's all about reading the label and doing the math. Even one cup of pasta with nothing else is around 170 calories, but in a restaurant you get maybe 3 cups PLUS everything else that could be piled on top of it. It all adds up. Anytime you eat out, you are not in control of your food, and that means extra calories.

Last piece of advice: cut the excuses. If you really wanted to lose the weight you wouldn't let any one, any restaurant or any thing else stand in your way. I used to be the master of excuses: I love food too much, it's too hard, ect. That's why I stayed overweight. Now that I am serious about it there is nothing stopping me and I see that reflected in my weight and the way my clothes fit.

I should add I am keeping my calories at 1100 for only 10 days, then bumping it back up to 1300. You shouldn't drop down that low (1100) for more than 10-14 days or your metabolism may slow (and your weight loss). cat

U go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously though, i also know how frustrating is: i have been working out alot lately...but my measurements are just going up...........so something in the maths is off. I have to adjust my diet, but i feel too lazy about it. I'm really gonna have to apply myself and work it out scientifically.... che palle!

Well done Jess for getting there!!!

thanks lizzie! yeah it has to be your diet. Especially given how active you are with kids, the gym, work, ect. I had the same problem, but when I started counting my calories they were WAY above my guesses and I was even doing that extreme fat smash diet! It was my fault, because my portions were way off and even with exercise I was barely breaking even-NOT what I was aiming for! I have since joined a weight loss support group with a nutritionist and a dietician and they helped me figured it out. Now I am seeing the weight come off, FINALLY!

oooooooooh. is this a group on line or in person? I need some help figuring things out, but have no moeny to spend on dieticians etc. When I started working out I was 109 lbs and I like to be 103 lbs. Now after 2 months of really working hard at the gym I weigh 112lbs! Che pizza! And I wouldn't mind but all my measurements are way up so it is not just muscle. I suspect it is bread and wine. I am lazy so sometimes I just eat bread instead of any other carb. I hate being hungry coz it makes me dizzy and I can't think straight...so I need to find a solution and start eating more veg and fruit (which I don't fancy at the mo!). Maybe I am retaining some water too, I have a thirst in this period. Another prob is that it's hard to get wholegrains here and I am not in the habit anymore. Any tips? (Bear in mind I am very short so my weight needs to be in proportion! It's no good saying 'your wieght sounds fine to me' Smile )

hey lizzie,

I joined www.annecollins.com
It was only 20 Us dollars for a whole year and you get 9 different meal plans depending on your needs and the support forum that anne participates in daily where you can ask either her or another nutritionist questions about your diet, weight, ect. The other members are really supportive too. The plans are really flexible and do able. They stress that it not really a diet but an easier way to eat for what your needs are: vegetarian, low GI, ect. But all of them can be used for weight loss or maintenance. As I said I have been doing the low calorie "booster diet" to get my body into weight loss mode. I think you should at least look at the site and if any of the plans sound interesting let me know.

Another .5 kilos down today! woot woot!

I have to have a look at how I get my body into 'weight loss mode'....can't I just shout at it 'u big fat thighs...loose weight or I will never show u the light of day again!'? Shocked

It's really tough isn't it! You need some major distractions. Now that the weather is getting better it will get easier...go out for the day and just pack what you are gonna eat...that way u can avoid those scary hidden calories Jessica warned us about, and also stop that thing happening that u get to the point of being so hungry that you will eat a whole pack of dough-nuts in one sitting!

One problem I have is that if the meal is made the main event of the day, as it typically is with Italians, you end up eating far more than u want to because u are sat at the table for 3 hours....it drives me crazy!

I am planning to get out and about this spring; let the kids enjoy some fresh air and a change of scene, and maybe do some movement. (We are thinking of going to the beach next Saturday if it is sunny, as I don't have to work... we'll take a picnic. If u fancy it let me know...the more , the merrier.... we go to the cancelli, not sophisticated, but it's free!)
anyway stay focused...it's only day one! affraid

This mornign I asked my instructor at the gym for some advice about loosing weight... he said I can have 70g of carbs a day, although unlimited fruit veg and lean meat. Do u know how little 70gr is? I had to get the magnifying glass out! But I am gonna try it! It seems a shame that I am doing all this exercise but not loosing weight.... I will report back with any results! Surprised

(Jess how many are u allowed with ann?)

Lizzie, I'm not sure. I follow a meal plan so it's basically all calculated for you. I would say that sounds about right though. We have unlimited amounts of veggies and about 2 serving of fruit a day as snacks. Fruit, whole wheat pasta, brown rice are also carbs....and they're not 'bad' for you. When it comes to carbs you should think of good and bad ones. You need to include good carbs as a part of any healthy diet, and keep the bad ones (cakes, white bread etc) to a minimum. Anne's plans include a good balance of healthy carbs, which are important to keep your blood sugars stable (which in turn will help you with sugar cravings). 70 sounds reasonable when you consider that most moderate low carb diets usually allow for only 30-55grams a day.

I would just cut any "white" carb loaded (aka processed carbs) foods and stick to whole wheats, fruit and veggies. Barilla makes really good whole wheat pasta and I honestly can't taste the difference. I also started to limit my dairy intake. Instead of skim milk which is hard to find I replaced it with a light soy milk. Soon I will replaced my yogurt with a non dairy version as well. Totally not necessary for everyone, but I think that milk may not work well with me. I have noticed since reducing I have less bloating and acne flare ups. Instead of counting, just make these little changes.

Also, Anne says wine is fine, it's definitely better than beer! drunken

I don't eat any wheat products. When I was in the UK I did, but I suffered from a lot of bloating (IBS) but after tests I know I am not actually allergic to wheat, so maybe I just have to re-educate my system. I don't like yoghurt, take little milk, but I love cheese...BUT it is something I can eliminate from my diet without too much regret.
Thank goodness Anne approves of wine, becasue eliminating that would just be too much for me!!!!! drunken

Hey lizzie,
That's interesting you weren't allergic but had a lot of bloating. boh! Just go with what feels right to you, but I think the simplest thing would be to just count your calories and eat more veggies.
