Thank you for that warm welcome. I have to admit I am a bit teary eyed right now. Because i am a friendly lady too! I currently live in Phoenix, Arizona and quite frankly if I left Phoenix I would miss my girlfriends terribly. Female companionship means a lot to me.

To answer your question, my husband, daughter and I look forward to travel before settling into one spot. We are all sport divers so we will be looking more or less by costal areas. My family is from Alcamo in Sicily and Montemesola in Taranto. I visit Tuscany (montecatini area) with friends and love that too. Location is up for grabs right now-I love mountains, my husband likes the sea, obviously we live in Phoenix (we are both from the east coast, NY and NJ) and prefer the warmer climate--SO suggestions are always welcome...It's lovely meeting you and hope to get to know everyone soon!

Hi Devita -
If you want beautiful mountains and beautiful sea, anywhere along the coast of Abruzzo is a great location.

However, it does get lonely and most of my true friends are expats even though I've been here 8 years. I find that Italian women in general, no matter how hard they try, cannot understand me because our backgrounds are too different.

Welcome to the forum!
When you get down to moving, read our lists of what to bring and not to bring (in one of the forum topics here... can't remember which).

Welcome Devita!

I second Rachel, if you're after the sea and (real) mountains, Abruzzo's the place to be Wink !

I'm from Tucson, and I'd love some Arizona girls in the area!

Keep us updated!

...WHAT ABOUT EARTHQUAKES??!!? Anybody have any feedback on this? I saw the pictures--Most of the building were old but still very scary.

Frankly, anywhere in Italy is susceptible to quakes. It's part of the reason this country is so beautiful... millennia and millennia of tectonic and volcanic activity.

I think of all the Abruzzo girls here, I'm the closest to L'Aquila. The earthquake last year, and the subsequent tremors were really scary to me, I'm not used to quake territory! Life was pretty disrupted for awhile, and still is for those in the city.

However I have to look at it as we're "done", hopefully we wont have another like it in my lifetime. And sadly it takes a disaster to bring about changes to building code, response measure etc.

I wish there were such thing as somewhere impermeable to nature's wrath. I'd even though Arizona was pretty damn close to it, but the recent Baja quake proved me wrong.
