im from texas and california and i have to say ,what i miss the most is decent mexican food, not the crap they have in Florence thats overpriced and mediocre. I will say that Tijuanas has some great margheritas but what I wouldnt do for a refriend bean and cheese burritos or just well..corn tortillas!

Hey! If you are ever in the Rome area I must recommend this Mexican place to you and others: http://www.elpueblo.it/eng_index.htm
Its very good, reasonably priced and most importantly the taste is authentic!

I am a huge fan of everything I've tasted off of this menu but if i had to recommend one thing Id say definitely say try the chicken enchiladas- They are delicious !

Side note: This is one of the only Mexican places I have visited that offers sour cream (which is a bonus)

There is decent Mexican in Verona too! I was shocked to say the least. Everything tastes the same, there is even sour cream and good guacamole Razz One of the places even has cheddar on everything (as opposed to mystery white cheese).

oh, yes, corn tortillas are definitely hard to come by here in Italy! I once brought two huge packages over from the US and they ended up in the freezer for 2 yrs and then in the trash Sad

I just couldn't gather the energy to get all the ingredients together and make the whole mexican meal... make your own refried beans (with borlotti), harvest your own cilantro (which I keep forgetting to water and it keeps dying!), find limes at local grocery store (not everyone has them), use greek yogurt in place of sour cream, and usually make your own salsa (sometimes you can find a decent one at Lidl, but the salsas in other stores have always been disappointing - too sweet).
Anyway, the whole ordeal gets to be a headache, and i'm the only one in the family who really appreciates all my efforts...
so the corn tortillas had a bad ending... but if you really love them, you might bring a package with you!
tortilla chips, on the other hand, are available here.

and georgette, i have to agree, all the mexican (an chinese, for that matter) restaurants in my area are horrendous!

I haven't had any problems finding tortillas in Rome or Verona. Even small stores sell the burrito and taco kits where you just add meat. Can't say they are as good as the real thing though...

We have been to that Mexican restaurant in Verona, it's definitely better than "No Mexican" food. They have wonderful strawberry margheritas. We should meet there for lunch sometime Jessica, and whoever else is near Verona.

Jessica,

The restaurant we went to was the one in the center of all the shopping etc. I can't remember the name, but I want to say the name had the word frog in it. I wouldn't mind a margarita myself Very Happy We can meet during the week or on a weekend, whatever is best for you. We can meet during the weekend for dinner also with our husbands if you would like, (my husband speaks English/Italian)if your husband is Italian. With or without, either way works for me. I do have the inlaws coming in for a visit on the 22nd of this month. So we can plan something before then or after they leave on the 9th of November. Looking forward to meeting and a margarita.

Yeah, pasta every day doesn't sound like such a dream after six solid months. LOL

My solution for finding Mexican food is that I'm going back to stay with my parents for Christmas. Three weeks of real New Mexican food -- can't wait!! That being said, there is at least one good Mexican restaurant here in Torino, but it's expensive! Way more expensive than Mexican food should be, especially after coming from California. I miss my taco stand in Venice, California.... Rolling Eyes

Surprisingly, we have a really great Chinese place not too far from our house. Now if I could only find someplace with Thai food. Sigh. I'm dreaming of a thai iced tea!!!

Hi Michele G! LOL I hear you, When I go home its for shopping mainly, but of course for some craved foods also. We are also going home to California & Colorado for 3 weeks over the Christmas and New Year holidays. We use to live in Newport Beach, so kind of close to Venice, Cali. My daughter and I use to love to go to Venice and people watch. My mexican food craving comes from the food in Mexico, but I would take California Mexican anyday also Very Happy So your in Torino? What brought you to Italy? Thank you for the info on the Torino Mexican restaurant, it is nice to have options as you know. We also have a good chinese place near us in Thiene. All of us craving Mexican should get together some time! Have a great weekend, ciao!

Hi, Michele!

Yeah, California Mexican food is way different than New Mexican Mexican food, so I know what you are saying. Newport isn't that far from Venice -- not that you could go there every day -- but my dentist was in Newport...kind of far from the Westside, huh?

Yep, I'm in Torino now, have been since May 5. I moved here to marry my boyfriend, Giulio. Very Happy I had been coming to Italy on vacation since the Spring of 2005 but only met him about a year and a half ago. Luckily for me (and for him!), he lived someplace that I love. LOL

Hope you had a great weekend! I'm without internet on weekends, at least for the time being, so do my catching up during the week, usually on Mondays.
-Michele
