Children’s Film Festival at Villa Borghese


15-22 December 2011. Villa Borghese hosts the Dei Piccoli Filmfestival, a film festival especially dedicated to small film buffs. The programme includes are a series of famous movies, which will be screened for free. On Sat 17 December at 18.15 will be projected a movie by Luc Besson dedicated to the world of Minimei, entitled Arthur and the Revenge of Malthazard.

At 20.30 will be shown the documentary film The Dark Side of the Sun by Carlo Shalom Hintermann, which has been successfully presented for the first time at the last Film Festival of Rome. It explores the XP Disease (Xeroderma Pigmentosum), a rare illness which affects children causing skin cancer and forcing them to live exclusively at night, since sun represents a mortal enemy. It tells the story of a girl affected by XP, whose tenacious parents created a summer camp, better known as Camp Sundown in the state of New York, where a small night community tries to fully live their live despite the illness.

On Sunday 18 December children will enjoy the Comics of Stanlio and Ollio accompanied by a life concert by the pianist Antonio Coppola.

For the smallest, who enter a movie theatre for the first time in their lives, the festival foresees eight appointments (daily at 16.45, Sat-Sun at 15.00), which will last about 30 minutes, dedicated to the stories of Professor Balthazar, a funny inventor, who solves any problem as well as to the magical animations by Fusako Yusaki.

At the weekend there are two classical cartoons: Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood and The Nutcracker as well as the puppet version by Suzie Templeten of the musical Pierino and the Wolf and the movie of The Magic Flute by Gianini and Luzzati.

On 20 December at 17.30 there is shown the animation movie Arrietty, written by Hayaho Miyazaki.

The festival includes retrospectives, special tributes, workshops for schools and encounters on special topics.
