Hey!
Does anyone know of a discoteca in Rome that's not really expensive to get into and plays fun music (not just house and dance music)? I've only managed to go to a club a few times here because I've been put off but the high entry charges and drink prices...only to discover after getting in that I didn't like the music much either!
Maybe I need to change area? I've only been out near Piramide. Advice please! At the prices they ask it's impossible to do my own market research!

I'll ask my sister in law who works at FAO, she is always out partying (lucky her!). I haven't been to a club for 10 years now.......it's so sad. But I have the same problem, what I really need is a good wedding reception where they play good 80s music, everyone gets tipsy and a bit silly and no one cares about their image, just about having a good time! I AM A SADDO
! Razz

Back in my husband and I's clubbing days (2 years ago, then married life set in-lol) we pretty much went everywhere in Rome (he was in a hip hop dance troupe). Basically they are all the same: over priced and sketchy music. The only time it was worth it was Thursdays when it was "black music night" at most clubs (but then again, it is Thursday). Not sure what music you are looking for, but "black music" in the clubs is basically hip hop/pop music (in other words, tolerable). Prices were unfortunately the same though Sad Another cool place to go is Ostia during the summer. Better music and it's on the beach with bon fires and stuff. But I can't remember what the price difference was, if there was a difference. If you tell me your music tastes I can ask my sister in law, she goes out every night of the week!

Wow I had no idea your H was in a hip hop dance troupe! yes tell us more or link us to a video or something! Very Happy

I've only been out clubbing once here in rome back pre-kid and pre-marriage and it was SO SAD. I also went to Testaccio, paid a LOT to enter what looked like a nice club and it consisted of (i kid you not!) a guy playing an electronic piano and singing (badly! and in a really weird accent) things like Abba, Elton John and Cher -ugh! No Then there was another floor where they played techno - I actually don't mind techno if the DJ is good but this DJ was horrible!

Anyway it was also sad as there were no good dancers there. Everyone was too busy posing and trying to look cool to really get down and dance. I used to love going out dancing in New York and have also had fun dancing with my husband and his friends in Holland when we visit but the scene in Testaccio just seemed sad.

The club I used to go to in NY was great because it played great music but also people were there to dance - not to see and be seen. Also there were people there of all ages, races and sizes. Also it was inexpensive.

Yeah there was a lot of drama heehee. One of D's exes was in the group and he ended things with her when he met me. They basically did a bunch of competitions. But his dancing "connections" were really handy when it came to the standing outside hoping we get picked to go into a lame club thing. Anyway, I think there is a youtube video or two somewhere, I'll have to look. He also has old pics on his facebook Lizzie.

Thanks for your advice! It has led me to the conclusion that there's probably not much dancing fun to be had at reasonable prices Sad
Jessica- My kind of music is really any that isn't dance and house, so black music night might be worth trying, thanks.
Piccolina- I like dancing in a more, ahem, unrestrained way too (ie, I can't dance and just make an idiot of myself but most importantly HAVE FUN!) and I didin't like the poser-y people either.
Ah well, just have to wait till I'm on hols in England for my dancing fix. At least here I can score an awesome aperitivo!

I've been looking at this place called Black Out rock club (rock is my thing) which looks none-too pretentious and just about affordable. Unfortunately, I have nobody to go with any more (my social circle of two went back to America for the Xmas hols ) but if you go, let me know if it's any good. Sad
