Hi - I've been living in Rome since 2001 with my Italian husband and two kids (daughter 14, son 11).

I have a few American friends, but most of the English speakers I know are either from work or through my church. My colleagues are usually single, without children and often have very busy work schedules and those I meet at church are folks who are just passing through ... so I haven't had many opportunities for close, long term friendships with other Americans/English speakers in my neighborhood Crying or Very sad

I live in the Cinecittà area and would be so very happy to meet others for rather simple things, like, grocery shopping, coffee dates, an occasional dinner out (preferably not a pizzeria ^.^) or the cinema. Anything really.

Are there really no other married/single moms in my area who have to lug their groceries home every morning from the market? Wait 2 hours at the doctor's office to get a prescription? Show up at the Post Office half an hour before it opens to get a decent queue number? -sigh- It would be nice to have someone nearby with whom to gripe and complain about all the inconveniences and minor trauma we expats face on a daily basis Rolling Eyes

Although it took a while, I have become used to life here in Italy. This is home for my children and for my husband, after all - and I've received many blessings since coming, so I shouldn't complain, really. But I do Razz

Rome can be a beautiful place, the people friendly and gracious, the days can be merry and pleasant, the evenings exciting and fun ... but that's usually for the tourist, or the single. Things are rather different when you've got to make daily meals for 4, keep up with kids and school, make appointments, maneuver through bureaucratic systems - all the while relying on public transportation and very short business hours.

So ... is there anyone here? Anyone? Where are you?
Come ... find ... me ... please .

>^.^<

Thanks so much for the welcome !!

Although I've been here for a number of years, I'm still not too familiar with street/place names, but that might be because of my bad sense of direction in general. So.. I had to ask my husband how far we lived from Nomentana and Mancini. -sigh- The distance didn't seem too great judging by the map, really, but in Roman measurements, it would seem we are quite far far away from each other.

But I'm glad to have made your acquaintance and hopefully we'll get to know each other better through the forum. Thanks again !!

always on the look-out for a bosom buddy, Thereasa

Hi there, you could say we're neighbours! My 11 yr old son goes to school in Cinicitta est area, although we live in the new tor vergata area. I'm 41 and have two kids and an italian husband too.If you fancy a chat I'm free most mornings, let me know when and where

Oh !! I've just come on to read what's new in the forum and I see your replies - I didn't get an email or notice, so really, sorry for not responding sooner.

ClareRoma - I'm near SubAugusta or Giulio Agricola, but any metro stop is fine with me. I've read a few of the posts and have read about a past meeting on Via Nazionale (I think). I know my way around there, too, if that's more convenient for you. And there's always Termini ^.^ Let me know -- but there's no hurry. And thanks !!

giodafa - I think Cinecittà est is ... not here. haha. I don't quite know where Cinecittà est is. I'm in the Cinecittà area near the aqueduct park. Is Cinecittà THAT big? There's a middle school in this area called Vincenzo Bellini (the "centrale" and not the "succursale"). Let me know --- or maybe we could all three (clareRoma) meet the first time around. I'm up for anything. Thanks !!

Ah, just so you'll have an idea, my schedule, more or less.
Mon - Thur : free mornings to afternoon, around 2:00
Fri : free
Sat : free afternoon and evening
Sun : not usually free

Thursday's sounds good to me, and yes peachknee cinecitta is that big.So where do we meet up? Somewhere close to a metro station or somewhere that has easy parking, I don't fancy driving around for an hour looking for a parking space.

I was thinking about meeting at Termini as everyone should know how to get there, outside the from where the buses go from should be ok Smile
