Hi - I've been living in Rome since 2001 with my Italian husband and two kids (daughter 14, son 11).
I have a few American friends, but most of the English speakers I know are either from work or through my church. My colleagues are usually single, without children and often have very busy work schedules and those I meet at church are folks who are just passing through ... so I haven't had many opportunities for close, long term friendships with other Americans/English speakers in my neighborhood
I live in the Cinecittà area and would be so very happy to meet others for rather simple things, like, grocery shopping, coffee dates, an occasional dinner out (preferably not a pizzeria ^.^) or the cinema. Anything really.
Are there really no other married/single moms in my area who have to lug their groceries home every morning from the market? Wait 2 hours at the doctor's office to get a prescription? Show up at the Post Office half an hour before it opens to get a decent queue number? -sigh- It would be nice to have someone nearby with whom to gripe and complain about all the inconveniences and minor trauma we expats face on a daily basis
Although it took a while, I have become used to life here in Italy. This is home for my children and for my husband, after all - and I've received many blessings since coming, so I shouldn't complain, really. But I do
Rome can be a beautiful place, the people friendly and gracious, the days can be merry and pleasant, the evenings exciting and fun ... but that's usually for the tourist, or the single. Things are rather different when you've got to make daily meals for 4, keep up with kids and school, make appointments, maneuver through bureaucratic systems - all the while relying on public transportation and very short business hours.
So ... is there anyone here? Anyone? Where are you?
Come ... find ... me ... please .
