What kind of other things do people miss that you cant get here? like antiseptic cream, flu pills etc or what is more expensive here?

Like Katja i must admit Germolene is a most! I used a creme over here on a cut and it didnt do anything to help it infact it got worse! When i visited the UK in October i used Germolene and within 2 days it was much better!

I also stock up on Beechams flu tablets as i havent seen flu tablets here and they are really good as well.

I did have some surgical spirit in the bathroom but run out and made my BF buy some more as he never used it before but uses it now Smile

I use Avene products which are reasonably expensive in the UK (about £6 for their gel eye make-up remover), but RIDICULOUS here. That same make-up remover was 13 euros in my local farmacia. affraid

I haven't yet tried to find Johnson's Clean and Clear, but I'm beginning to worry that it might not be available. Does anyone here use it/know if it's available?

(I know these are more beauty products than healthcare, but it's a similar line of questioning ...)

Hello! I saw your posts on this and wanted to let you know that there are some great things you can find if you can find a good female pharmacist. I found a good one and she will even ORDER things for me! She knows all kinds of cool stuff and what works. We had a normal relationship (which was quite formal) untill she asked me where I was from and if I knew how to make Cheesecake. I think like Clare, generous unselfish giving brings serious rewards...so I made her one and took it in to her, with my name and telephone number attached to my pan, praying she would return it to me...and now I get the low down on products and the great advice I so needed here. Best use of cream cheese ever!

Well, there is a ton of stuff I cannot get in Calabria..but wakame seaweed salad is one I desperately miss! Indian spices and Thai spices...Also, baking things like cream of tartar. Good thai jasmine rice, japanese onari rice, margarita mix, good vodka, Bain de Terre hair recovery complex, etc...but I keep trying. My patience to just wait ran out a long time ago so I usually try to order things from UK because they make it more often that things from outside the EU. Then, when possible, I bring stuff back from the States that I can or my family sends it.

Some things I have found that have helped: Amazon UK, Ebay UK..

Things still to find: Gardening stuff-photos of plants and their latin names, meat cuts charts in English/Italian and fresh fish names in Italian/English.

What about ibuprofen? I hurt my knee last week and while I don't like taking it and don't normally take it, I really need it. BUT, I had to pay 3,90 for a pack of 12 tablets, and these were only the 200mg kind. At 2-4 a day (minimum), this is going to be too expensive. The pharmacists were dumbstruck when I told them that in the U.S. you can buy a canister of 500 for a very small price.

I am still trying to get my health care papers sorted out and am not signed up with my husband's doctor yet. I think a prescription and going that route might take too long.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
-Michele

Is hydrogen peroxide available in Italy? Maybe from pharmacists? It is a great anti-bacterial antiseptic, I use it as mouthwash too.
Does anyone know if I would be able to get it in Italy?
Thanks so much for your feedback.

If you are looking for hydrogen peroxide, then go to the farmacia or to almost any grocer, and ask them for "acqua ossigenata". It is usually even less than one Euro! Good luck!

That's surprising. I bought ibuprofen, the powder kind for about 8 euros for a box of 30 packs. With prescription it costed me on 1 euro 50 cents.
Some doctors are kind enough to put the prescription under your husband's name.

Hey ladies! I know of a great website that ships American food all over Europe. It can be expensive but sometimes it worth it! Arrow Here is the link http://www.americanfood4u.com/Suche/cheese.htm?VL=cheese

I've searched high and low for my usual moisturiser Oil of Olay (called Olaz here) with SPF15. I ran out of the supply I brought over so I ended up paying 30 euro for a tiny tube of another brand of moisturiser with SPF15.
Has anyone else had any luck finding a not to expensive moisturiser with SPF?

I've had problems finding the contraceptive diaphragm, sponge and spermicide here (I'm not supposed to use hormonal contraceptives). Has anyone else found these things? My gynaecologist just dismissed my request for a diaphragm saying they don't use them anymore in Italy as they're 'too unreliable'. No
